Why This Class
When your student grows up, you want them to know—and do—the kind of work that makes them happy. If photography is something that already puts a smile on your student’s face, this course will inspire them to level-up their skills in both taking and editing pictures.

Students in this course begin by learning the essential features of software for organizing and enhancing their photos. Mentors then guide students through a case study in which they strategize how to take top-notch pictures on a family vacation. Students also practice taking portraits of both people and animals (with an emphasis on respecting their subjects and practicing proper etiquette as photographers) and learn about tools for printing their finished work.

Students who complete this course expand their repertoire of skills to identify and make the most of photo opportunities on a daily basis. They are more excited than ever to practice and use photography to express their view of the world.

Why This Class
You know your student has something important to contribute to the world—and it just might be that photography is how they’ll share it. If taking pictures is naturally appealing to your student, this course will show them the fundamentals of how to do it well.

Mentors kick off this course by taking students on a tour of the evolution of photography and showing them how to use and care for their cameras. Students then learn to recognize the elements of a great photo and engage their creativity by taking pictures of a range of subjects in different settings. Students receive prompts that guide their practice shots each week and meet monthly to share their work with peers and receive mentor feedback.

By taking this course, students hone their natural interest in photography and learn to see the world through their camera lens. They develop their unique point-of-view and gain insight into the artistic thinking that makes for great photography.
